Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapy team is committed to helping you do daily activities well and live life to the fullest even amidst injury, illness, or disability.

Helping People Live Independently Overcoming Barriers Through Occupational Therapy

Returning to daily life after illness, injury, or surgery can be a daunting task. Significant health challenges require significant recovery time, and our occupational therapists are here to help you transition smoothly back to normal.

Our occupational therapists also work with children who need help establishing good skills, habits, and routines that will set them up for success in school and life.

At Prosser Memorial Health, our occupational therapists work as integral members of our transitional swing bed care, outpatient, and inpatient care teams.

An occupational therapist can help you establish or regain these skills:

  • Personal Hygiene

  • Eating

  • Speaking

  • Fine Motor Skills

  • Interpersonal Skills

  • Behavioral Strategies

What is the difference between physical and occupational therapy?

While physical therapists generally treat a specific injury, occupational therapists help people regain function in their day-to-day lives when recovering from that injury. A person may see both a physical therapist and an occupational therapist concurrently

Will my occupational therapist come to my home, or will I need to go to the hospital?

Our occupational therapy teams work as part of inpatient, outpatient, and home health care. Your occupational therapy arrangement will depend largely on your health, the frequency of therapy, and even your insurance coverage.

What is involved with an occupational therapy evaluation?

During your evaluation, the occupational therapist will do some tests to evaluate your fine motor skills, sensory skills, physical abilities, and cognitive capabilities. Using the information from this evaluation, the therapist will develop a customized therapy plan and schedule for you.

This is how we care.

Around here, caring means more than exceptional medical care. Care goes beyond the doctor’s office, the hospital, or the HIPAA agreement. To us, care is personal—from the gut, and from the heart. It’s about coming together to mend spirits with personal connections every day.
